South East Region Jubilee Jamboree

On 15 May 1987, Kilcully hosted the South East Regional Jubilee Jamboree, bringing Scouts together for a special gathering during an important anniversary year for Irish Scouting.
1987 marked the Diamond Jubilee of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland (CBSI), celebrating 60 years since the organisation’s foundation in 1927. Jubilee events took place around the country during the year, and the South East Region marked the occasion with its own gathering at Kilcully.
The Jubilee Jamboree was an opportunity not only for camping and Scouting activities, but also to celebrate the generations of young people and volunteer leaders who had been part of the movement during its first sixty years.
By then Kilcully itself had been serving Cork Scouting for almost two decades. Hosting the South East Region’s Jubilee Jamboree was therefore particularly fitting, bringing another major gathering to a campsite that had already become an important home for Scouting in Cork.
