Cork Diocesan Shield held in Kilcully

On 18 May 1997, Scout patrols gathered at Kilcully for the Cork Diocesan Shield Competition, an important annual test of traditional Scouting and patrol skills.

The competition gave Scouts the opportunity to put into practice the skills they had developed within their own troops, working together as patrols through a range of practical Scouting challenges.

The 1997 Diocesan Shield was won by the 55th Cork (Carrigaline) Scout Group.

Events such as the Diocesan Shield were a regular feature of life at Kilcully. While the campsite hosted many large national and international gatherings over the years, competitions such as this were equally important, bringing Cork Scout groups together and giving generations of young people the opportunity to develop their skills, teamwork and confidence.
