Faces of the 1980 Melvin

Alongside the hundreds of Scouts taking part, events on this scale depended on a large community of leaders, supporters, families and volunteers, many of whom are preserved in the Kilcully photographic archive.

Photographs such as the one showing 4 women enjoying the event capture the wider community surrounding major Scout events, with families and friends joining Scouts and leaders for an important weekend in Kilcully’s history.

The presentation ceremony at the 1980 Melvin also provided an opportunity to recognise service to Scouting. One of the photographs records congratulations being offered following the presentation of a Papal Award during the gathering at Kilcully.
