A Gathering at Kilcully

In 1975, Kilcully hosted the annual gathering of the Cork Clerical Students Group, one of the many organisations and groups making use of the campsite in its early years.

Joining the gathering were members of the 37th Cork (Togher) Scout Troop, pictured in the front row. The Togher patrol had won the Melvin Trophy, the All-Ireland Scoutcraft Competition.

Photographs such as this show that Kilcully was becoming much more than simply somewhere to pitch a tent. The house and facilities were increasingly being used for meetings, celebrations and gatherings within the wider Scouting community.
